Abstract

Purpose : The Rabin cone contrast test (RCCT, Innova Systems, Inc.) is a computer-based, cone-specific (L, M, S) contrast sensitivity test. We evaluated color abnormality in central serous chorioretinopathy(CSC) using the RCCT which gives L, M and S-CCT score (range, 0-100).

Methods : We evaluated cone-specific (L, M, S) contrast sensitivity using RCCT in eyes with CSC with decimal best corrected visual acuity of 1.0 or better. Seventeen eyes with subretinal fluid (SRF) and 14 eyes without SRF were included in this study. We also evaluated RCCT scores of 8 cases in whom RCCT scores were measured at active phase (with SRF) and remission phase (without SRF).

Results : Twenty males and 3 females were included in this study. Mean age was 53.6±11.6 years (range, 42-86). Mean L, M, and S RCCT score were 55.4±16.7, 51.8±26.5 and 22.1±27.7, respectively in eyes with SRF cases. Mean L, M, and S RCCT score were 80.9±14.6, 84.1±21.2 and 65.3±33.9, respectively in eyes without SRF cases.
In 8 eyes of cases in whom RCCT scores were measured both at active phase and remission phase, the L, M, S RCCT scores improved from 60.0±16.7 to 83.8±6.9(p<0.05), from 59.4±11.5 to 92.5±2.7(p<0.05) and from 23.1±28.8. to 67.5±31.5(p<0.05).

Conclusions : Color abnormality was found in eyes with CSC even with good BCVA and improved after remission.
