Abstract

Purpose : Evaluation of tear break-up time in patients with dry eye disease after 90 days of topical using of alpha lipoic acid eyedrops

Methods : 42 patients (19 men and 23 women) with dry eye disease started using alpha lipoic acid eyedrops three times a day. Tear break-up time test was performed in all patients at baseline and on the ninetieth day of the treatment

Results : The average tear break-up time time was 6.8 ± 0.4 seconds at baseline and 8.7 ± 0.5 seconds on the ninethieth day of the treatment

Conclusions : 1. Studied alpha lipoic acid eyedrops elongate tear break-up time in evaluated group of dry eye disease patients.
2. Alpha lipoic acid eyedrops may improve tear stability
