Abstract

Presentation Description : Abusive head trauma is by definition a medical diagnosis with significant medicolegal implications. Despite an enormous robust evidence base whcih informs clinicians and scientists, our adversarial court system allows for and promotoes the development of alternate theories of causation for the medical findings which has even led to speculative publications and courtroom hypotheses which may not be well rooted in science. This talk will explore the "paper trai;" that clinicians and scientists should be familiar with when working in this area to help separate fact from fiction.

This abstract was presented at the 2019 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in Vancouver, Canada, April 28 - May 2, 2019.
