Abstract

Purpose : Compare the time of application of laser multispot vs conventional laser, as well as assess the pain that patients present during its application.

Methods : It was a simple blind randomized clinical trial in patients with a definitive diagnosis of proliferative diabetic retinopathy and severe non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy In this study, patients were chosen for laser application in both eyes, one eye received conventional laser treatment and the other eye received the multispot laser treatment, the application time was measured with each of the lasers, and a pain scale was applied to each of the participants. Each of the patients underwent a complete ophthalmologic exploration as well as the performance of ultra wide-field photographs OPTOS before and after the laser application.

Results : We studied 17 pairs of eyes to detect a difference of at least 1 minute at the time of application, assumed an average time of 4.5 ± 1 in the group of a single shot. The formula T and a level of significance of 5% were used.

Conclusions : The laser multispot proved to be less painful as well as requiring less application time. As well as taking ultra-wide field photos allows us to evaluate changes in the retina due to diabetes and that the patient better understand his illness.
