Abstract

Purpose : Analyze the clinical characteristics of concomitant exotropia in 705 cases. Analyze the proportion of different concomitant exotropia. Investigate the relationship between age and deviation in intermittent exotropia and constant exotropia

Methods : Design: Retrospective Case Series
Participants: Data on 705 patients were collected from medical records for concomitant exotropia in Peking University First Hospital between January 2018 to November 2019.
Methods: All the patients was classified into intermittent exotropia, constant exotropia, residual exotropia, perceptual exotropia. Clinical features include Gender, age at first appointment, dominant eye, deviation Age at first appointment and deviation between intermittent and constant exotropia were statistically analyzed. The correlation between age and deviation in intermittent and constant exotropia was analyzed seperately. 26 1 ; 135 7 5 4; 192 16 3 4

Results : 334 patients were male, and 371 patients were female. The dominant eye was measured in 393 cases, right eye in 215 cases and left eye in 151 cases, and different dominant eyes at far and near distance in 29 cases. The numbers of patients with intermittent exotropia, constant exotropia, residual exotropia and perceptual exotropia were 664, 24, 8, 9 seperately. The average ages at first appointment of patients with above strabismus were 10.32±9.61, 15.92±13.93, 12.88±4.26, 16.11±10.79 years. The ages between intermittent exotropia and constant exotropia were statistically significant(P<0.001). The deviation of strabismus and age between intermittent exotropia (-40.45±20.93) and constant exotropia(-57.3±25.81) were statistically significant(P<0.001).

Conclusions : The incidence rate of concomitant exotropia is basically the same for male and female. As dominant eyes, the ratio of right to left eyes is 1.42 to 1. Intermittent exotropia accounted for 95.18% of the concomitant exotropia. Early Detection, early diagnosis and early treatment are important interventions for concomitant extropia.
Key words: concomitant exotropia, intermittent exotropia, constant exotropia, residual exotropia, perceptual exotropia, infant exotropia, dominant eye, deviation
