Abstract
Purpose :
To evaluate the prediction error and the effect of axial length (AL) on refractive status in eyes implanted with segmented refractive multifocal intraocular lenses.
Methods :
Consecutive patients underwent SBL-3 (Lenstec, Inc., +3D) MIOLs implantation were enrolled in this study. IOL power was selected by Holladay II formula. PE was calculated as the difference between postoperative spherical equivalent (SE) and target refraction, absolute PE was also calculated at 3 months follow-up. Eyes with AL more than 24.00 mm were included in Group A, while AL less than 24.00 mm were included in Group B, differences of PE and mean absolute PE were compared between the two groups.
Results :
The study included 123 eyes of 77 patients with a mean age of 68.35±9.41 years and mean AL of 23. 44±1.18 mm. The mean PE was -0.56±0.55 diopters (D) (range -2.16 to 0.57 D) and mean absolute PE was 0.60±0.50 D (range 0-2.16 D). 51.4% percent of eyes were within ±0.50 D of the target SE refraction with 81.6% within ±1.00 D of intended correction. Group A showed significantly hyperopic PE than Group B (-0.60±0.61 D vs -0.41±0.38D, P=0.043). Mean absolute PE was also significantly smaller in Group A than Group B (0.43±0.36D vs 0.66±0.61D, P=0.015).
Conclusions :
A mean myopia shift of 0.56D should be considered when choosing IOL power of SBL-3 implantation. PE was significantly hyperopic in eyes with AL more than 24.00 mm.
