To evaluate ganglion cell complex (GCC) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) with optical coherence tomography (OCT) and functional tests as visual acuity (VA) and Hardy Rand and Rittler (HRR) Standard Pseudoisochromatic Test in patients with Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy (ADOA).
Prospectively defined, cross-sectional study of 38 eyes of 19 patients with diagnosis of ADOA. All patients underwent a complete functional examination with VA and colour test, and a structural examination with OCT (Cirrus®, Zeiss).
Analisis of OCT results was done and correlated with functional tests. Results show that temporal sectors of GCC and inferior and superior RNFL sectors were directly correlated with VA measured with ETDRS and with HRR in eyes with ADOA.
Functional and morphologic changes observed in ADOA eyes are helpful to understand the physiology of the disease. Analizing OCT, VA and colour test could be a future tool to select patients who can take benefit of receiving future treatments.
