Abstract

Purpose : To characterize AMD Drusen, AMD Drusenoid deposits with regard to their OCT morphology and density, structure, volume feature with Morphology-Structural software to individuate AMD Atrophy complication biomarkers and predictors

Methods : 74 eyes of 54 patients, 18 men, 36 women, with AMD drusen, AMD drusenoid deposits evolving into iRORA, nGA. Deposits were evaluated by OCT, notably OCT en Face (Spectralis HRA-OCT, spectral domain OCT), and Morphology-Structural software (M-S software). M-S software let analyze drusenoid deposit volume and contours, 3D deposit reconstruction, display in 3D space, let drusenoid deposit contents analyze, discrimination, differentiation, let grading(volume and contours analyze), let measurements: density(grey levels of deposits, statistic moments of pixel intensities:mean, median, minimum, maximum), structure(structural measures, texture parameters, Haralick texture measurements for distances of 1 to 10 pixels), volume(in µm3). Analyze, characterization, specificity of those drusen, drusenoid deposits, their morphology-structural parameters

Results : AMD Drusen, AMD Drusenoid Deposits evolving into iRORA, nGA are: 82% dark grey, optical empty, fatty, equal and the same in all cross-section(OCT/OCT enface),18% dense, white, granular, irregular, mixed, ,heterogeneous. From M-S software, 84% have Low Density, 16% Medium, in average; Structure parameters were 86% low values (700), 14% low despite higher (1000), in average; Volume parameters had no point as an overall criteria but are of interest for lesion, eye, patient, one and one by one. So this allow to individuate AMD Drusen , AMD Drusenoid deposits morphology-structural feature, characteristics, criteria for risk evolution to iRORA, nGA, and AMD Atrophy complication biomarkers and predictors

Conclusions : MORPHOLOGY-STRUCTURAL study of AMD drusen, AMD Drusenoid deposits evolving into iRORA, nGA let determine predictors, atrophy risks factors of AMD, of those AMD drusen, AMD Drusenoid deposits, so contribute to individuate biomarkers, to improve AMD knowledge, physiopathology, etiopathogenesis understanding and hypothesis formulations
