Abstract

Presentation Description : Characteristics of light exposure, such as intensity, spectral composition, and duration, are known to influence eye growth. While the mechanisms of the protective effects of light remain elusive, investigations on whether behavioral modifications and light therapy may be effective in reducing the onset and progression of myopia in children are increasing. Objective measures of light exposure using wearable sensors are advancing our understanding. In this talk, recent findings of the effects of light interventions on myopia, in both animal models and clinical trials, will be discussed, with a focus on time outdoors and narrowband light therapy.

This abstract was presented at the 2023 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in New Orleans, LA, April 23-27, 2023.
