Abstract

Presentation Description : Diabetes affects many facets involved in maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis including mitochondrial dynamics and genomic stability, and mitochondrial dysfunction is considered to play a central role in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. Diabetes is also associated with epigenetic modifications, and these modifications further disturb mitochondrial homeostasis. This presentation will focus on the importance of mitochondrial homeostasis in diabetic retinopathy, and will highlight the role of epigenetics in maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis.

This abstract was presented at the 2023 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in New Orleans, LA, April 23-27, 2023.
