Abstract
Presentation Description :
Cone photoreceptors are vital for human vision –daylight vision depends on our cone-enriched retinal fovea. We study cone photoreceptor biology using the cone-dominant ground squirrel. In this presentation, I will discuss the structure and function of cone photoreceptor mitochondria in the ground squirrel retina, focusing on structural remodeling, genetic changes, metabolic adaptation during hibernation, and an unexpected optical role of mitochondria clusters in cone photoreceptors.
