Abstract
Purpose :
We designed this study to find out that early resolution of ME in BRVO patients indicate better visual outcome, and how early ME resolution should be achieved. In addition, we sought to find out what factors are associated with this early resolution of ME.
Methods :
Fifty-three eyes with macular edema (ME) secondary to BRVO were divided as 3 groups based on period of ME resolution in ≤ 6 months, 6months<and≤12months, or >12months. We compared their aqueous profiles, optical coherence tomography findings, and other characteristics at baseline and clinical outcomes at 18 months check-up. And we identified factors associated with early resolution of ME.
Results :
The group who showed ME resolution in 6 months showed significantly younger age and lower aqueous placental growth factor levels at baseline. In the clinical outcome analyses, that group showed significantly better best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) compared to 2 other groups and more improvement in BCVA level compared to group without ME resolution until 12months. In the logistic analysis, age < 60 years and macular BRVO was associated with no recurrence of ME after 6 months.
Conclusions :
ME resolution ≤ 6months indicates better visual outcome in BRVO patients. And age <60 years and macular BRVO were associated with this early resolution of ME.
