Abstract

Presentation Description : Multiple inherited or complex diseases that involve the RPE can preferentially affect either macular or extramacular regions of the retina. The molecular basis of the regional basis for different diseases is not well understood. In this presentation we discuss a set of experiments on isolated human RPE cells in which we compared macular and extramacular RPE cells using joint single nucleus RNA-Seq and ATAC-Seq. Regional gene expression differences, regional chromatin accessibility differences and cell-to-cell heterogeneity will be discussed in the context of macular diseases, as well as online tools for accessing and visualizing ocular single cell data sets.

This abstract was presented at the 2023 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in New Orleans, LA, April 23-27, 2023.
