Abstract

Presentation Description : Nerves and immune cells are closely linked in the corneal epithelium and stroma. Using animal models of corneal nerve injury and epithelial immune cell depletion, insights into the functional interactions between corneal nerves and immune cells are revealed. In animal models of corneal abrasion injury, corneal epithelial immune cells are necessary for therapeutic intervention (decorin) aimed at promoting sensory nerve regeneration.

This abstract was presented at the 2023 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in New Orleans, LA, April 23-27, 2023.
