Abstract

Presentation Description : Aging is a major risk factor for glaucoma. Sex is a risk factor but differs across different glaucoma studies and cohorts. In this presentation, I will address the commonalities, differences, and reasons why aging and sex affect glaucoma. Importantly, this presentation will address the proper use of age and sex matched controls, controls within your animal colony (esp. defiations across animal departments), and considerations in clinical trial planning, as well as the potential mechanisms at play (e.g. increased retinal ganglion cell vulnerability with age).

This abstract was presented at the 2023 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in New Orleans, LA, April 23-27, 2023.
