Abstract
Purpose :
We have termed the ratio of the total retinal photocoagulated area to the whole retina as the photocoagulation index, in order to evaluate the strength of pan retinal photocoagulation (PRP). In this study we calculated the photocoagulation indexes of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) after PRP with or without neovascular glaucoma (NVG).
Methods :
PDR patients with NVG (n=31) and without NVG (n=53) who visited Osaka University Hospital from October 2015 to March 2023 and underwent PRP more than one year ago were included. Photocoagulated lesions were evaluated by autofluorescence of ultra-widefield retinal imaging(Optos: TX-200, Silver Stone, Nikon). All the photocoagulated lesions were determined by a software (MIPAR:MIPAR Image Analysis) and the photocoagulation indexes were calculated.
Results :
Photocoagulation Indexes of PDR with or without NVG were 48.6±12.0% and 36.8±9.3% respectively. (P<0.0001)
Conclusions :
This is the first report which evaluated the strength of PRP and Photocoagulation index of PDR with NVG is almost 13% more than that of PDR without NVG.
