Abstract

Purpose : To compare ocular biometric parameters between primary angle closure suspects (PACS) and acute primary angle closure (APAC)

Methods : This cross-sectional study was performed on 36 patients including 27 cases of PACS and 9 subjects with APAC. Central corneal thickness (CCT), axial length (AL), aqueous depth (AD),pupil diameter (PD ) and lens thickness (LT) were measured with Lenstar. The ratio of PD/LT was calculated. In the PACS group, only data from the right eyes were compared. In the APAC group, the fellow eye was used as a proxy measure of the pre-APAC attack state for which there are no topical eyedrop treatment particularly miotic or LPI applied. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors.

Results : Compared with PACS, APAC had a significantly shallower AD (P=0.000, 1.6±0.1 mm VS 1.9±0.2 mm),smaller PD (P=0.04, 3.2±0.1 mm VS 3.7±0.5 mm) and smaller PD/LT (P=0.036, 0.7±0.1 VS 0.8±0.1). In the APAC group, AD (P=0.036) was the only significant risk factor.

Conclusions : This study indicated a shallower AD is a strong prediction of APAC. In PACS patients, a very shallow AD need further interventions before APAC attack. Because of the small sample size, further research need to be conducted.
