Abstract

Presentation Description : Precise connections between synaptic partners are shaped during development to ensure proper neural circuit function, but how these connections are disassembled and potentially repaired or rewired after injury is less well understood. In glaucoma, compartmentalized neurodegeneration of the ganglion cell not only includes axonal injury but also disassembly of the bipolar to ganglion cell synapse and dendritic pruning. This talk will provide insights into retinal synapse remodeling, plasticity, and the role of microglia in synapse disassembly.

This abstract was presented at the 2024 ARVO Annual Meeting, held in Seattle, WA, May 5-9, 2024.
